Broadway Grand Rapids hosts the most popular touring shows of the year, events like Disney’s The Lion King and Hamilton.
They needed digital branding to match the status of the events they were bringing in.
My goal was to develop a website that served as an intermediary between social/search/email marketing and their ticketing platform.
This site needed to be mobile friendly from the start, something not usually done for performing arts sites at the time.
The original site ran on an in house system, made to manage multiple sites. The new site needed to a dedicated CMS that could move and grow with the company as needed.
I approached the planning phase from 3 different angles. First, I outlined the main content and sitemap. Second, I built wireframes and prototypes. Third, I made a list of possible CMS solutions with pros/cons.
I chose Drupal because it is highly customizable while also having its own in-house hosting. I found that it had everything the website would need from complex date management and event display to simple page layouts and editing.
During development, I started with content. I prioritized mobile design by starting with small screens and building the CMS.
I stuck with the basic Drupal CMS design and really used its design features to maximize content strategy, from building out views that would display different events, to simplifying the build process of an event page.
In April of 2012, Broadway Grand Rapids launched a well branded, mobile friendly site, built with Drupal.
